This is the acronym for the Health Policy Institute of Ohio, a non-profit, non-partisan
organization that promotes Health and related topics in Ohio.
Our Vision statement is "Advancing the health of Ohioans through informed policy decisions."
It is the acronym for Health Information Technology, that is the use of modern technology and
electronic communications systems to store, and retrieve health-related information. This is done
so that it is easier for Health Professionals to have better information to make better decisions about care. In doing so, they provide better, more effective and timely care to their patients.
Patient Safety, as well as Security and Privacy of the information are important hallmarks to any well conceived system seeking to improve the delivery and administration of health care.
It is the acronym for OHio Health Information Technology.
This is an initiative of the Health Policy Institute of Ohio to promote the use of HIT in Ohio.
We see the use of Health Information Technology as a tool to increase the quality of health care,
reduce health care costs and achieve savings thru systemic changes, increase patient safety and,
in short, improve the the Health of all Ohioans.
Health Information Exchange is the electronic process by which health providers share information
about a patient with other providers that also treat that same patient. This helps coordinate care,
increasing safety for the patient, reduces unneeded duplications and unintended effects of
uncoordinated care. While this can be done between business partners, its greatest example is
between RHIO members and the NHII.
A Regional Health Information Organization is a collaboration of medical, business and governmental
entities that, by agreement and mutual benefit, work together to enhance the health of the population of a region through HIE. A RHIO could be formed in a Metropolitan Service Area, a portion of one or more states that have common economic interests, or any two or more entities that want to work together for the mutual benefits and advantages that the relationship offers in regards the health of their constituencies.
The National Health Information Infrastructure is grand vision of connecting RHIOs, allowing our mobile population to have their medical information available to providers treating them no matter when in the US they are. This is particularly important to people's health in times of disasters and other crises.
Health Information Security and Privacy Collaboration.
Federal organizations have recognized the importance of fostering HIT efforts and have made several
funding opportunites available to the States and organizations that work within them for promotion
and building of HIT.
