The Health Policy Institute sponsored this important event on October 23, 2006 at the Quest Business Centers in Columbus.
This summit focused on the evolution of Health Information Technology (HIT) in the State of Ohio. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about and actively participate in the Ohio Health Information Strategic Plan (OHISP). OHISP is a statewide effort to assemble the pieces of the National HIT puzzle into a fully integrated health information system for Ohio. Specific focus was given to the current progress of the HISPC and NHIN contracts.
Those who attended were Health care leaders and interested parties from all sectors of healthcare.

Dr. Hayes will provide an overview of "A Strategic Roadmap and Policy Options for the Effective Adoption of Health Information Technology and Exchange in Ohio" and respond to questions about this report. His overview and any general discussion will set the stage for conversations to take place in the two breakout sessions. Download Presentation

This breakout session will give all attendees the chance to participate in small group discussions about the roadmap. These discussions will focus on identifying strengths and any weaknesses in the proposed roadmap. Participants will get to express their degree of support for the roadmap.

In each session below, participants will begin the next step work needed to refine these recommendations and turn them into legislative proposals and implementation plans.

During lunch, staff will turn the information from all the breakout sessions into a short presentation. This session will be the presentations of the results Breakout sessions I and II. It will also include plenty of time for general discussion based on the work from the breakout sessions.

Holt Anderson, Executive Director, North Carolina Health Information Communication Alliance, Inc. (NCHICA). Mr. Anderson is a nationally recognized authority and pioneer in community-based health information technology, policy and practices. NCHICA is a private, nonprofit consortium of healthcare providers, payers, corporate partners, professional associations and government agencies with the mission of improving healthcare in North Carolina by accelerating the adoption of information technology. Holt is on the Advisory Councils for the IBM Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) Architecture Prototype Contract with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and the RTI Privacy and Security Contract for AHRQ and ONC.
